In my project WABI- SABI I am exploring what is left behind.

I have photographed the transition in Lower Manhattan for the past 20 years. In my neighborhood we have experienced tremendous sadness, and change in every aspect of our lives. Once considered a Monday- Friday business district whose permanent residents were pioneering loft dwelling artists, today the area near the WTC is filled with tourists from all over the world mixing with young professional families residing in new or renewed apartements. In every block I feel the sorrow of loss, and see  the waste of personal and commercial excess.

In my previous project  IDENTITY,  I use photography to explore identity and interdependency; the process allows me to contemplate my feelings and thoughts.

The closeness of my subjects reveals my yearning for intimacy and unity, and the wonder that I have about human experience.

I was engaged in making images for this series for over five years, concluding the project in 2009.
