I am a native of Belgium, currently residing in New York City. I am interested in how living beings inhabit the planet; my camera is my vehicle for curiosity. I started working with a camera in 1983. Like most people, I started with family and familiar subjects. The darkroom is my private space, my universe in which I interact with my subjects.

My work is informed by a range of things, including personal histories and my own wish to have been a doctor and a detective. I am fascinated with the hidden anatomy and the marvel of the human brain. I collect magic lantern slides relating to science, old police records with mug shots, images in historic medical journals, old school room maps, oddities and unusual objects.
